“Imagine what it's like not to receive important information at all because you don't have access to the internet or because it's difficult for you. That's not a utopia, but reality for many people.” Digital accessibility is essential for creating an inclusive society. With the Accessibility Act coming into force in 2025, many companies will have to deal with the issue in depth. It's best to start now.
The legal basis
Digital Accessibility - What does it mean?
The European Accessibility Act (EAA) requires companies from all sectors to design digital resources in such a way that they are accessible and usable for all people, regardless of their physical or mental abilities. In order to ensure digital accessibility on the web, the Accessibility Act will come into force on June 28, 2025.
The foundation of the new digital accessibility directive is the Web Content Accessibility Guideline 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) in conformance level AA. The WCAG 2.1 is based on four basic principles:
Perceivable
Operable
Understandable
Robust
Websites, Onlineshops & Banking Services
Accessibility Act - Is my business affected by it?

The WebAccess assistance software has no impact on the performance of a website. The plugin loads after the entire page was loaded and is fully rendered by the browser.
You don't have to worry about data protection. All individual adjustments are stored in the user's local storage. Our plugin does not collect or pass on any other user data.
You can continue to use your website's CMS as usual. Newly created articles, posts and menu items are automatically recognized and prepared by the software so that the user can display everything barrier-free using our tool. Newly uploaded images are analyzed every 48 hours and are given a suitable alternative text if you have not created your own.
In Austria, there is no exact number of how many people rely on accessible websites, but some data and estimates can provide an idea:
People with Disabilities:
Around 18.4% of Austria’s population have a recognized disability. This amounts to approximately 1.6 million people who may require support or accessible digital services, such as improved accessibility for visual, auditory, cognitive, or motor impairments.
Seniors:
Older adults also benefit significantly from accessible websites. In Austria, about 19% of the population is over the age of 65, which corresponds to roughly 1.7 million people. Aging often leads to limitations that can make accessing digital content more difficult.
